Ikale Obas Disown ISCRC, Call for Dialogue on Okitipupa Oil Palm Dispute

By Samuel Oluwamuyiwa Olaniyan

Ikale traditional rulers have officially disassociated themselves from the activities of the Ikale Supreme Civil Rights Council (ISCRC), led by Mr. Orimisan Adelokiki. At an emergency meeting held on January 15, 2025, at the Okitipupa Local Government Secretariat, the Obas unanimously condemned the ISCRC’s recent actions, particularly the quit notice issued to Okitipupa Oil Palm Plc (OOP PLC) and subsequent threats of a strike.

The Obas expressed their dissatisfaction with ISCRC’s methods, stating that such actions could disrupt ongoing efforts to resolve the decade-long dispute over the assets of Ikale communities. “We strongly condemn the press statement issued by the ISCRC. Their actions are not in the interest of peace or the development of Ikaleland,” the royal fathers declared.

The meeting, which included prominent monarchs such as His Royal Majesty Oba W.A. Akinlade, Halu of Aye, and Oba S.G. Bajowa, Rebuja of Osoro, and other prominent Ikale Obas resolved to advocate for dialogue and lawful channels to address any perceived grievances. The Obas advised Adelokiki and his group to “sheathe their swords” and allow peace talks to prevail.

This stance aligns with an earlier position by Dr. Bolu John Folayan, publisher of Ikale News, who had called for legal and structured efforts involving traditional rulers and stakeholders to resolve the OOP PLC issue. “The ultimate goal is to recover Ikale assets and implement a sustainable management strategy for the benefit of our people,” Dr. Folayan said, urging all parties to desist from unilateral and divisive actions.

The Obas reaffirmed their commitment to presenting a united front during the Ondopa meetings initiated by Ondo State Governor, Dr. Lucky Aiyedatiwa. A reliable source at the meeting revealed that the monarchs would rally their communities to articulate their individual positions and ensure that all concerns are presented amicably.

Present at the meeting were His Royal Majesties Oba W.A. Akinlade, Halu of Aye; Oba S.G. Bajowa, Rebuja of Osoro; Oba M.O. Adetoye, Jegun of Idepe, Okitipupa; Oba O.F. Akinmoye, Orungberuwa of Erinje; Oba E.A. Idepefo, Majuwa of Ilutitun; Oba O.J. Akinyomi, Iyasan; and His Royal Highness Olanrewaju Ayeromara, Regent of Irele.
